I did it!

Yes people I finished the grueling 110km Argus Pick N Pay cycles tour, in a mere 6 hours and 20 minutes. I am now in a severe amount of pain!

The first 50kms to Cape Point was pretty easy and the hills, which I had been dreading seemed relatively manageable. BUT from the half way mark it became a battle between finishing (my ultimate goal) and the pain that had taken hold of my legs.

Roads that we drive regularly, especially the stretch from Cape Point to Noordhoek appeared to have increased in distance and inclines that I had never known were there appeared to become steeper and more enduring.

I nearly called it a day on a few occasions during the race, one such instance being within in the last 20kms, just as I spotted a sign saying “Welcome to Cramps bay” my legs began to cramp so severely I could barely turn the pedals. The cycle tour is defiantly not one for the feint hearted.

On the upside, the race was so well organised and has to be one of the most beautiful cycle tours in the world, hugging the coast line of the peninsula showing off some of Cape Town’s best views.

Once the pain subsides I will be able to fully appreciate the day’s achievement, all being said crossing the finish line was truly overwhelming.

I would definitely do it again but I feel that some serious training would be beneficial.
