The 10 most unexpected consequences of being online

1. Being stalked.

2. Stalking other people.

3. Making contact with forgotten friends (again this could constitute as stalking).

4. Closing the distance – being online has created the opportunity to share my life here with family and friends at home, through; emails, sending and receiving of video clips and pictures home doesn't seem quite so far away.

5. Finding the love of your life, these days it doesn’t have to mean a mail order Thai bride. I have two friends that have married the person that they met online dating and they aren’t freaks or wildly obese or disfigured in anyway.

6. The potential to gamble away your life savings without even stepping foot in a casino.

7. Knowledge is power, being able to find out pretty much anything at the click of a button.

8. The evil that transpires from anonymity, those that abuse the online community.

9. Although you may think your information is safe, there is always someone with the capabilities and the know how to access your personal information and secrets.

10. One thing that I find slightly disturbing is the sheer amount of time we spend on our Blackberries, facebook, twitter, email etc. Will we look back in years to come and think, Why wasn't I outside making the most of my life, meeting people face to face???

City Bowl Market on Hope Street

The City Bowl Market takes place every Saturday bewteen 9am-2pm, it is housed in a beautiful old building on Hope Street, Gardens. The market has over 50 traders selling predominantly food and fresh produce.

It faces stiff competition from the deluge of new markets and especially from the more established Biscuit Mill, one of Cape Town’s most popular weekend markets that has really set the standard, but with its growing popularity it has become over crowded and the produce is expensive.

The City Bowl Market has potential. It ticks all the boxes, bar upstairs, garden and play area for kids as well as inside and outside seating areas to enjoy your breakfast or lunch.

It has only been open for a month and the selection of breakfast and lunch options are relatively limited, I feel that it needs a wider variety of food on offer to fill the seating area in the centre if the hall which would create the atmosphere it’s lacking and keep people coming back.

Defiantly worth checking out

Lions head meander

I love this weather, sunny blue sky, with a little chill in the air, perfect for exploring.
Now that I have a little bit more time on my hands its time to start doing some exercise, I really dislike exercising for the sake of exercising at the gym or running round a track. I like exercise that doesn’t really feel like your exercising; hiking, surfing, kayaking, cycling, horse riding those types of things.
Lions head is one of my favorite walks, it is so satisfying. 50 minutes up and 50 minutes down and you get to conquer a mini mountain!
The views are amazing you can see the whole of Cape Town.
Great way to clear the cobwebs out your lungs and take in what Cape Town has to offer.

An elephant in the room

Ok well strictly speaking this elephant isn’t in the room, it is the guy upstairs.
I have never known anything like, sometimes it sounds like a herd of elephants.
I have tried to recreate ‘the stomp’ but it just isn’t possible for any normal human being to make that much noise when they walk. I think he is possibly a Neanderthal still mastering the art if walking upright.
The other day when I was studying, his stomping drove me to despair, I took the broom and whacked in repeatedly on the ceiling with the intention of giving him some of his own medicine. I am sure he probably didn’t even notice but for any onlookers I must have looked a little crazy.
To my horror when I went outside he was waiting for a lift by the gate, but I don’t think he saw which flat I came out of and he certainly didn’t comment on my crazy roof  knocking outburst.
Maybe I should stop being such a coward and just go up there and say something to him, but what would I say?
You walk like an elephant it is very irritating
Or perhaps
Your constant stomping is driving me insane
Suggestions on a postcard please……..
Not only does he stomp like an elephant but on numerous occasions the whole block gets the pleasure of hearing him and his girlfriend fornicate like elephant’s. Day or night it doesn’t faze them.

Mountain bike adventures

My friend, Sarah called on Friday morning asking if I wanted to do a ‘funride’ on Sunday. I haven’t been on my bike since the Argus and I thought it was about time to dust off the cobwebs.
When the alarm went off at 6:15 am on Sunday I started to question my sanity.
We arrived at Nitida, wine farm and started unpacking our bikes from the boot of the car and attempted to reassemble them, I am not overly skilled in this department so enlisted the assistance of two rather large beer bellied Afrikaans guys that had parked next to us.
The ‘funride’ turned out to be two laps of a professional X country mountain biking course, with some rather steep hills and some rather professional looking funriders!
Slowly but surely we made it round our two laps, not without having to walk up a couple of the steeper hills I might add.
When we returned to the car the two rather large men that had assisted us were puffing on their cigarettes and seemed pretty impressed by the fact we had completed the two laps and they had bailed out after the first!
