Nanny Diaries

For those of you that don’t already know I moonlight as an Au-pair, once university classes are done and dusted I rush off to look after someone else’s children.
Two of my good friends are also Au-pairs and on a Friday we often vent to each other about the weeks eventualities.
The stuff that goes on in other people’s homes would make an interesting book, from being brutally bashed with a wand to putting up with the brat from hell phoning her mother saying your being mean to her!
There have been numerous occasions when I’ve been walking out the door at 6pm only to be asked to POP to the waterfront and collect something, I sometimes wander if these people think your life revolves around hem.
There are also the phone calls at 9am on a Saturday morning asking if I can lift the children, and of course sleeping in whilst the parents are away only to be woken up at 1am by the teenage daughter who has decided to have a party and her friends are jumping into the pool from the upstairs balcony, Its tough trying to master the art of being the children’s friends and staying in control.
Its weird being involved in the daily dramas of someone’s life and knowing more about the childrens schedule than their own mum and dad, it sometimes puts me off having kids but I suppose if they are your own at least your say is final!

  1. I commend you on having the energy and patience to take care of someone elses kids. I can only imagine how tough it must be at times. I really enjoyed this post, it gave me some insight into your life outside of uni. Nice one ;-)
