The Escapism of Horse Riding

I am a pretty avid horse rider, but my measly student budget can not stretch to cover the expense of my own horse, so when ever possible I take people up on the offer of riding their horses. My boyfriends cousin in pregnant so she is unable to ride her horse, it’s a little loco but its proving to be quite a challenge. The problem is, the horse is stabled in Noordhoek, but its worth the drive.
The one thing I love about riding is the pure escapism my mind just clears of all the nonsense that's normally polluting my thoughts. At times my head feels like a washing machine of check lists that demand my attention, they whirl around my head until I can write them down or forget about them; uni work, work work, appointments for me, appointments for the kids I look after, things to be collected or dropped off, washing, dinner the lists go on and on and on and on.
As soon as I set of riding the washing machine of checklists clears, its like the mist lifting on a foggy day. You can’t just think about yourself you have to be tuned in to what the horse is doing and how it will react. You have the time to look around and take in the little details of the world you that you normally wizz past without a glance. You have time to breathe and relax. If your stressed and rushing when you get on a horse they know and react to that.
When you climb up on to your steed have to leave the days worries behind.

  1. I've always wanted to try horse riding. I'll make sure that when I do, I leave all my worries behind though, wouldn't want an unfortunate accident on my first attempt. Nice post Katie :D
